The ARTS Center "Spotlights" the Van Manens and Gemini
Last year we profiled the local children's artists, Green
Chili Jam. Here are a couple of out-of-town groups we'd like you to know
about: The Van Manen's and Gemini. We have seen both of them perform and they
are fantastic. Their CD's and tapes are definitely must-haves!
The Van Manens -
Dave and Helene Van Manen perform hundreds of concerts, school assemblies,
music therapy sessions, conferences, workshops and in-services each year
throughout the United States. Drawing from their diverse backgrounds as
performers, educators, clinical music therapists, composers, naturalists and
parents, a Van Manen's concert is interactive, energetic and educational.
Presenting music with themes of self esteem, preservation of nature and standing
up for values, the Van Manens offer their audiences a rich tapestry of music,
story and dialogue.
The Healthy Planet, Healthy People show, explores the many facets of
taking care of ourselves. It covers important topics as drug and alcohol
prevention, making smart choices, and building self-esteem. This assembly
fulfills requirements for funding through "Drug-Free Schools Money".
(45 minutes for Gr. K-5.)
The Earthkeeping show raises students' awareness of recycling,
reducing and reusing.
The ARTS Center has the Van Manens' CD's and tapes:
Healthy Planet, Healthy People, We Recycle, and Barley Bread and
Reindeer Milk.

Gemini
As
Gemini, Sandor and Laszlo Slomovits celebrate with their audiences the
fun, warmth and humor of family life. Kids and adults love to sing with them!
From start to finish, a family concert with the twin brothers abounds with
rousing sing-a-longs, hand motion tunes, folk tales, and music from around the
world. The highlights of their shows are Gemini's original, sparkling songs
about the everyday experiences of childhood and growing up. They have an upbeat
flair for involving everyone, from tots to grandparents, in the music making.
