The ARTS Center "Spotlight"

THE GREEN CHILI JAM BAND is a five-time national award winning group with
three recordings for children and their families. GREEN CHILI JAM is the
recipient of two Parent’s Choice Gold Awards and three American Library
Association Notable Children’s Recordings. The group, consisting of two
husband and wife teams, has been together for nine years, and are not only
products of the APS system, but three of them have taught for APS. Wendy Fuller
teaches at Comanche Elementary School, and Barney Fuller teaches at Double Eagle
Elementary. Ron Torrez, now a counselor at the Albuquerque Academy, was an APS
music teacher for several years. Maryann Torrez taught at Rio Rancho Elementary
and for the Jemez School District and is now Special Events Coordinator for the BioPark.
Be sure to try one their recordings – we have them at the ARTS Center! Coconut
Moon is touched with a Caribbean influence. The songs include the off-beat
"Lard", a funny account of a science project that gets out of hand.
"The Islanders" is a story with songs about a people who journey from
their Pacific island home to a new land. Starfishing’s title song asks
"Are you supposed to eat them, or make a wish? And which part is the star
and which is fish?" Rounding out the trio of albums is The Magic Bike,
their first recording. All three albums express a child’s sense of curiosity
and adventure.
