The ARTS Center "Spotlight"
Dorothy Ellison and Lavon Tsoodle, Governor Bent Elementary School
Dorothy Ellison and Lavon Tsoodle, D level special educational assistants
at Gov. Bent, share their love of art and music, not only with their students, but
with other classrooms as well. Together, Dorothy and Lavon guide weekly experiences
in art and in music in several classrooms at Gov. Bent, singing songs, studying the work
of great artists, and creating art works. The young Gov. Bent artists have created
some outstanding pieces of work. "I just love to see the looks on their faces
when they discover they can create something beautiful," says Dorothy.
"Creative self-expression is so important, especially for students in special
education."
AND
Russell Thompson, Tomasita Elementary School
Russell Thompson, first grade teacher at Tomasita, was an enthusiastic
participant of Art and Music Unplugged last summer, and attended the Orff
workshop series at the ARTS Center. Always looking for new ways to enrich his
students' musical experience, Russell has helped his students make rainsticks, ocean drums
and "boom pipes" this year.
